Ingredients for Chilka Roti:

  • 1-1/2 cups Rice that has been soaking all night
  • 3/4 cup of overnight-soaked Chana dal
  • Oil, to be used in the rotis
  • Add salt to taste

How to make Chilka Roti:

Step 1: Wash and soak the rice and chana dal in water for the entire night before starting to make the Jharkhand Style Rice, or Chilka Roti Recipe.

Step 2: Rinse it under water in the morning and use a mixer grinder with very little water to ground it into a smooth paste.

Step 3: It should have a thicker consistency than regular dosa batter.

Step 4: Place the ground mixture in a basin, add salt, and thoroughly whisk to include air. In order to create softer crepes or rotis, this will make the mixture airy and light.

Step 5: Grease a skillet with a little oil and heat it over medium heat.

Step 6: Fill a ladle with the cooked rice and chana dal mixture, and spread it out like a dosa by swishing the ladle in an outward motion.

Step 7: Drizzle with a teaspoon of oil and sauté over medium heat for about two minutes, or until cooked through.

Step 8: When the bottom is done, turn it over and cook the other side for a further one to two minutes, or until it's done, then remove it to a platter.

Step 9: Similarly, use the leftover batter to make the remaining chilka rotis.

Step 10: For a weekday breakfast, serve the Baingan Ka Chokha Recipe and Lahsun ki Chutney | A Spicy Garlic Chutney together with the Chilka Roti Recipe (Jharkhand Style Rice).
