Baba Tanginath Dham Temple, Gumla
There is a penance place of Lord Parshuram in Gumla district of Jharkhand. This location is around 150 kilometers from Ranchi. According to legend, Lord Parashuram adored Lord Shiva fiercely here. This is where he buried his Parshu (axe).
The upper shape of this axe resembles a trident. This is why devotees gather here to worship the axe. The temple of Shiv Shankar is known as Tanginath Dham. It is stated that Lord Shiva lives in Tanginath Dham.
Tanginath, located in a forested area of Jharkhand, is only visited by devotees during Shivratri. Bholenath exists eternally in a temple here. The priests here are indigenous tribals, who claim that this temple is very ancient.
It is believed that Maharishi Parshuram buried his Parshu (axe) here. Locals worship it as Trishul. The unexpected fact is that it never rusts. This trident is unaffected by sunlight, shade, or rain beneath an open sky. Extremism has completely taken hold in this tribal-dominated area. In such cases, a large number of Shiva devotees congregate here, particularly on the days of Sawan and Mahashivratri.
In the Treta Yuga, when Lord Shri Ram destroyed Lord Shiva's bow at the Sita Mata Swayamvar in Janakpur, Lord Parashuram became enraged. During this, he had a long dispute with Lakshman, and when Parashuram discovered that Lord Shri Ram was Narayan himself, he felt terrible.
Out of shame, he left and went to a mountain range surrounded by impenetrable trees to repent. Here he established Lord Shiva's name and began to worship him. He buried the axe in the neck.
The old temple of Tanginath Dham crumbled owing to lack of care, and the entire area is now in ruins, yet ancient Shivalingas may still be found dispersed on this hill. The artifacts and engravings displayed here depict the story of ancient times.
Furthermore, there are other sources that lead to Treta Yuga. Well, there's one more story. Shiva is thought to have been a member of this region's old caste system. When Shiva threw his trident at Shani Dev for some wrongdoing, it landed on top of this hill. But its front part remained above the ground. Whereas no one knows how deep the Trishul is buried under the ground.
