Getalsud Dam, Ranchi
Getalsud Dam is an artificial reservoir located in Ormanjhi, Ranchi, Jharkhand. It was built across the Subarnarekha River and opened in 1971. It is a famous picnic site among Ranchi and Ramgarh District locals. Rukka residents can enjoy small-scale fishing at the dam. The dam's principal aim is to meet Ranchi inhabitants' drinking water needs. Aside from that, it serves industrial needs and generates electricity.
The Getalsud Dam is located on the northeastern side of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. It is located in Rukka Block and is commonly referred to as Rukka Dam. The Getalsud Dam is located approximately 35 kilometers from Ranchi and 30 kilometers from Ramgarh.
The Getalsud Dam is situated on the Subarnarekha River. The reservoir has a catchment area of 717 square kilometers and a full reservoir level of 1,954 feet. It was intended to meet Ranchi's drinking water demands as well as the industrial needs of Heavy Engineering Corporation Ltd at Hatia and other enterprises. The power generation from the Getalsud Dam is halted once the level hits 1917 ft to guarantee that enough water is available for drinking. Ranchi and Ramghar residents use the dam's surrounding areas as picnic spots. You can also expect a large surge around New Year's and Chhath.
