Jagannath Mandir, Ranchi

The Jagannath Temple is located in Ranchi, Jharkhand's capital city. Apart from being a well-known pilgrimage site, Jagannath Temple is one of Ranchi's most prominent and appealing tourism attractions.

The Jagannath Temple in Ranchi, India, dates back to the 17th century and is dedicated to Lord Jagannath. In 1691, Barkagarh's monarch, Jagannathpur Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo, erected it. It was completed on December 25, 1691, and is around 10 kilometers from the main town. The temple is on top of a tiny hillside.

This temple, like the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, is built in the same architectural style, albeit smaller, and, like the Rath Yatra in Puri, an annual fair cum rath yatra is held at this temple in the month of Aashaadha, attracting thousands of tribal and non-tribal devotees not only from Ranchi but also from neighboring villages and towns, and is celebrated with much pomp and vigour.

Most tourists ascend the stairs or drive to the high location. The shrine was desecrated and defiled by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1691. The temple fell on August 6, 1990, and was restored on February 8, 1992.
