Nakshatra Van, Ranchi

Nakshatra Van Ranchi

Nakshatra Van is a park located in front of the Jharkhand Raj Bhawan (Governor's Residence) in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The Jharkhand Forest Department established Nakshatra Van, a park in front of the governor's palace in Ranchi, the capital of the Indian state of Jharkhand.

A Nakshatra, also known as a lunar mansion, is one of the 27 or 28 divisions of the sky through which the Moon moves during its monthly cycle, according to Hindu astronomy and astrology. Each Nakshatra is identified by its prominent star(s) and corresponds to a zodiac sign. Hindu astrologers believe that each constellation in the zodiac corresponds to a tree. These trees have medicinal, social, aesthetic, or economic importance.

In 2002, India's Deputy Prime Minister, Sri L. K. Advani, placed the park's foundation stone. He planted a Vikankat that day. The Social Forestry Division was in charge of the park's planning and development. Department officials went to a Zodiac Park in Bangalore to research the concept. Scientists from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics were consulted during the planning stage. The park's construction took around two years. In 2004, the park was opened following a festive programme commemorating Van Mahotsav. Governor M. Rama Jois, among other dignitaries, inaugurated the park. In 2004, the Jharkhand State Forest Development Corporation took over the park's administration and management.
