Parasnath Hills, Giridih
Parasnath is an ancient high summit located in the Parasnath Hill Range. It is situated on the eastern edge of the Chota Nagpur Plateau in the Giridih district (Hazaribagh district in British India) in the Indian state of Jharkhand, India.
The hill was named after Parshvanatha, the 23rd Jain Tirthankara, who found redemption here. In this relation, there is the Jain pilgrimage Shikharji on the hilltop. Santhals and other indigenous people in the region refer to the hill as Marang Buru, which translates to 'big mountain' and represents the supreme deity.
At 1365 meters, Parasnath is the tallest mountain peak in the state of Jharkhand, and it is potentially visible (by direct line of sight on a perfectly clear day) from Mount Everest almost 450 kilometers away.
On the mountain crest, there is a lovely Jain temple called "Svarna Bhadra koot" ("cottage of golden grace"). The temple is constructed of marble. Jal Mandir is another marble Jain temple located on a hill.
